Freezing flowers in water adds a natural ice texture, a technique giving a dreamlike quality to the images as well as emphasising the delicate colour and structure of the flowers in almost glass-like clarity.
This technique is not entirely predictable and is, to a degree, uncontrollable. Although I had an idea of what I wanted to achieve and even with careful preparation, some pieces did not work as intended, so I had to repeat the whole process. On each occasion though, expectation and excitement were high as to how they would appear.
Over time I came to accept and embrace the variable nature of the final outcome, including the interesting imperfections, seeing each image as an unrepeatable and unique creation.
